Windows 7 Launch Date – 22-10-09
Microsoft will be launching their latest operating system this week with what is being heralded as a great improvement on their Vista system. Windows 7 will be unveiled to the general public this Thursday with much of the hype focusing on what many people saw as a poor showing from Microsoft’s last operating system launch. Vista was seen by many to be too flawed, with a multitude of glitches that left many customers deflated.
Windows 7 is said to have corrected many of Vista’s problems, whilst incorporating a whole host of new features which should have the world’s tech heads drooling. With an estimated 66% of all new PC’s sold this year said to be featuring Windows 7, it was important that Microsoft brought their ‘A Game’ to the table after the disappointment of Vista.
Well, first things first, Windows 7 is a lot quicker than previous operating systems, and also uses a lot less power, meaning that 7 will be able run on most Notebooks. The new running speeds are being estimated at saving up to 20 minutes of time a day per user, which over a year is quite a few hours! Windows 7 opens files quicker, has less pop up messages, and the Aero Snap feature allows the user to re-size smaller windows and work simultaneously on two different documents to save time.
Windows consumer product marketing manager, Karl Miklis, said -
People had between five and 15 windows open at any one point in time, with so many windows open it’s hard to navigate and find what you’re looking for. Most people can only really use three at once. People like to store things on their desktops – files, images, folders – but it was never designed as a storage space. It was designed as a background. People were using it as an easy access point.
This latest operating system is also tailor made for touch screen computers, maybe thanks to the popularity of the iPhone, so expect more new PC’s to become touch screen friendly. Plus with a whole host of new programmes such as Homegroup, which all you to file share between computers, and Shake, where you move a window from side to side and the others surrounding it disappear, Windows 7 is looking pretty impressive.
There will be 3 different versions available, and are easily upgradable from XP and Vista editions. Plus if you recently purchased your computer after the 26th June 2009, you may be able to take advantage of a cheaper upgrade, and in some cases it will be free.
