In the end the 5 inch streak device failed to pose a serious challenge to the Apple iPad, and the company is now focusing instead on 7 and 10 inch devices that are similar to the form factor of the iPad which currently dominates the market for tablets.

Dell is now focusing on its 7 and 10 inch devices, pricing its 7 inch offering aggressively at around $200 when rebates are included. However the device remains plagued by bugs in the software and a poor display.

Michael Dell the company’s chief executive says the PC maker will continue to focus on mid market opportunities, aiming to service small and medium businesses or the SMB sector as well as continue strengthening its dominant position in the public and health care sectors, as it seeks to achieve a long term growth rate of 7 per cent.

Dell has belatedly embarked on a strategy of diversifying its earnings base, and after posting a robust set of quarterly results is enjoying renewed favour from investors. The company has raised its outlook for 2012 on the back of strong demand from the corporate sector and margin improvement.

“We…heard a much better tone and story than in recent years. Dell still has a way to go on their transformation, but we were impressed that they have accomplished what they set out to do over the last year,” said Wells Fargo analyst Jason Maynard.

“It is not entirely clear if the recent improvements in margins are temporary given better demand/spending versus their structural changes. For now, we believe this remains the primary debate on the stock,” he said in a client note.

At its investor conference held in Austin Texas, Dell did not provide any update to its 2012 guidance.

The company has attempted and aggressive expansion into handheld (tablets and smartphones), as well as data centre equipment.

The company sees storage equipment and services as a key driver of growth for the company. The company expects revenues from its storage businesses to grow between 15 to 20 per cent on average over the next four years, implying that the business will nearly double. The company would not pursue the same strategy as rival HP which acquired Palm and its operating system software.

“It’s counter to our strategy,” he said. “We tend to be much more open to multiple (operating systems).”

Some Wall Street analysts see Dell becoming more acquisitive within software, focusing on cloud applications and its services group. Dell had about $15.2 billion in cash and investments at the end of its first quarter.

“We are being selective and patient as we think about our acquisition strategy,” Gladden told the conference earlier.

Not just as the brightest laptop screen I have ever seen, but it also happens to be brighter than every all in one desktop PC I have ever reviewed in my life too. In fact this baby is brighter than the 22 inch flat panel display I have sitting on my desk, and doesn’t just light up the night sky, it lights up every angle as well.

Whilst talking about performance is important, and the Dell Coupons XPS does well here, the real measure is how well it stacks up in the third dimension. The 3D is indeed quite effective not stuttering regardless of what 3D games or movies we tested on it. If you don’t mind sitting a little away from your PC and wearing 3D glasses, then you will enjoy the experience of 3D entertainment.
