Dell Australia- The Release of the New Dell Inspiron R Series Laptops

October 20, 2011 · Filed Under Dell Computers, Dell Computers News, News · Comment

The Dell Inspiron range of laptop computers has just been significantly boosted with the release of the R series machines. Naturally, Dell Australia have made sure that you are able to receive the standard of quality you expect from a laptop, with numerous new features. Whilst I will certainly outline some of the technical benefits of the units, for the more creative people, you also have the choice of changing the look of your laptop. Unlike traditional designs, if you wanted a particular colour, you had to stick with it once bought. The R series actually will allow you to change the look of the top to match your outlook or mood for the day, with an option of twenty five different styles.

However, for the technically minded, the Inspiron R series laptop comes in the three popular sizes of fourteen, fifteen or seventeen inches and can accommodate the Intel i3, i5 and i7 architecture chip set, for maximum processing power and performance. It is a power house machine, that will allow complex video editing, or mathematical program work without a sweat, or over usage of resources, as it is well designed to cope with most heavy use demands.

Given that more and more people are depending on laptops these days, there is no need to feel that you will be compromising on any features as is evident by the high quality SRS sound system on board, as well as the speed of USB 3 installed. This will ensure maximum seed of data transfer when connecting external devices, provided they are also compatible with USB 3. The laptop is backward compatible with USB 2 and 1 as well.

For those on the move, the battery comes as a standard six cell unit but does allow for an option of nine cells. Given the high efficiency of the unit, the operating time can be as long as three hours on a single charge. In addition, the option exists for installing as much as 8 GB of internal memory, to handle the most demanding tasks.

Dell Australia have made sure the Inspiron R series laptop will satisfy the demanding needs of today’s laptop user on the go. A Highly recommended unit.

Dell Bids Adieu To Five Inch Streak

August 15, 2011 · Filed Under Dell Computers, Dell Computers News, Dell News, Tablet · Comment

Computer manufacturing giant, Dell Computers Australia is betting on larger tablet devices and bidding farewell to the 5 inch Streak device as it seeks to aggressively compete with Apple’s popular iPad product.

Recently the company posted on its website that it was saying “Goodbye” and that “It’s been a great ride.”

In the end the 5 inch streak device failed to pose a serious challenge to the Apple iPad, and the company is now focusing instead on 7 and 10 inch devices that are similar to the form factor of the iPad which currently dominates the market for tablets.

The Dell Streak was launched in August of last year, and from the very start it had a number of defects, its screen size was not that much larger than rivals, and its resolution was lower, it also came with a dated version of Android, despite a much more advanced version already on the market. Dell also priced the device poorly, the 5 inch Streak cost US$300 on contract or $550 out of the box, which is just $50 more expensive than the most basic first generation iPad.

As a result Dell was simply not able to provide a credible alternative to the iPad which has derived great benefit from its first mover advantage in the tablet segment.

Despite ending its experiment with a five inch device, Dell has not surrendered the tablet segment to Apple, with chief executive Michael Dell predicting that Android tablet devices will eventually outgrow Apple as it did in the smartphone segment.

Dell is now focusing on its 7 and 10 inch devices, pricing its 7 inch offering aggressively at around $200 when rebates are included. However the device remains plagued by bugs in the software and a poor display.

Dell is also focusing on the 10 inch segment, with company launching an Android powered tablet in China exclusively in the China market last week. The company has not announced its plans for America, saying that the market in the US lacks direction and is highly fragmented.

Dell Launches 10 Inch Android Powered Tablet In China

August 5, 2011 · Filed Under Dell Computers, Dell Computers News, Dell News, News, Tablet · Comment

Dell, which trades in this country as Dell Australia has apparently launched its first 10 inch tablet offering according to the news agency Dow Jones. In June it was widely reported the computer manufacturer would launch a 10 inch tablet device that runs on Android, which would be released in China first.

The new device is the third tablet offering from Dell, and its first 10 inch version that will compete with products from Apple and Motorola.

The device is 12 milimeteres thick, weighs roughly 700 grams, and comes with dual rear and front facing cameras front (including a 5-megapixel camera), is made using edge-to-edge glass, a brushed aluminum back full 1080p video playback, an SD slot, and an Nvidia Tegra dual-core processor.

Tablet fans who decide they would like one, can buy one for less than $500, and the device is capable of docking with multiple ports, running HDMI video, as well as the ability to run separate Citrix sessions on external monitors, and an Ethernet port, among other features.

In June Dell said it did not intend to launch a device in the highly fragmented and unsettled US tablet market, since the company does not believe it offers a viable business opportunity right now.

“This…avoids a bunch of the inhibitors and barriers to success that we’ve seen in the U.S. market,” said John Thode Dell vice president and manager of Dell’s mobility business . “Things like confusion over what exactly Android is bringing to the table.”

Dell says it will release a 10 inch tablet device in America later in the year, though it remains unclear exactly when. Currently Dell has a range of smaller tablet devices and a hybrid offering.

In China Dell has a store network of over 10,000 shops that stock its products, and by the end of the year the country will have roughly 2,000 service centres.

Dell Launches New Marketing Campaign Focusing On Function Rather Than Feature

July 20, 2011 · Filed Under Dell Computers, Dell Computers News, Dell News · Comment

Dell Inc, which trades in this country as Dell Computers Australia has undertaken a new marketing campaign in America which takes its cue from the marketing playbook of rival Apple, and ignores all techno babble all together.

In one of the commercials, a teenage girl discusses how she uses her laptop, which of course is made by Dell to video chat with a lad she has a crush on. Another commercial features a grandmother explaining how she stays in touch with family using a smartphone made by Dell.

The campaign is being called “More You” by Dell and will begin airing at the end of the month, and really seeks to personalize technology marking a departure from tradition for a company who got its start by commoditizing it instead. Rather than focusing on specifications, Dell hope the campaign will focus consumers thinking on features and their uses.

“We realized it was important to connect more emotionally with customers,” said Paul-Henri Ferrand, who heads Dell’s consumer marketing efforts. “Most competitors are neglecting the fact that technology is empowering people’s lives.”

Dell Coupons has been working hard to win consumer market share, since it is heavily skewed towards corporate customers. The company wants to re-invent its image and it appears its efforts are starting to bear some fruit.

In the fourth fiscal, its consumer unit delivered a profit after struggling with cost control and customer acquisition in the past. In its most recent quarter ending April 29th, the growth has continued. Over the last few years the company’s reputation has not fared well, after falling behind rivals in key areas such as perceived quality, overall satisfaction and reputation.

The company has recovered some of that lost ground, and hopes that its latest marketing effort will help accelerate the trend alongside its larger corporate rebranding campaign titles “The Power To Do More,” which it launched last month.

The improving prospects of the company have been reflected in the share price with Dell shares rising a whopping 22 per cent since it reported that it has returned to profitability.

The new campaign will primarily revolve around social networks and premium cable channels , as the company seeks to target consumers who it believes are most likely to want to make use of its products, such as gamers, professionals, students and families.

Like the ads of rival Apple, the emphasis will instead be on how Dell customers use its products rather than focus on statistics and specifications which the company trumpeted in the past such as chip speed, but tend to make people’s eyes glaze over.

Apple for example, in an early ad for the iPhone showed a simple image of a finger swiping on a screen, emphasizing its ease of use. Dell hopes its ads will have a similar effect.

“It will help people think, ‘It’s about me,’” Mr. Ferrand said. He added that effort will hopefully move Dell closer to becoming a lifestyle brand akin to Coca-Cola Co. and Apple, where people see the products as part of their everyday lives.

Leaked Documents Suggest Dell Readying Launch Of Windows 8 Tablet

July 17, 2011 · Filed Under Dell Computers, Dell Computers News, Dell News, News, Tablet · Comment

Dell which trades in this country as Dell Computers Australia could well be the first PC manufacturer to launch a tablet that will be ready to work with Windows 8. According to a recently leaked document, the tablet will begin selling in October, and initially be powered by Windows 7.

The device is codenamed Peju, though the likely official name of the tablet will most probably be The Dell Latitude ST, and is squarely aimed at a specific audience despite a daunting array of competing products.

A website calling itself the Dell Peju Insider has already popped up, claiming to offer “Inside updates from Dell insiders. 10″ tablet running windows 7 with all the features you expect from a business tool.”

Whilst it is possible the site is spoof or fake, it is also equally possible that the site is a marketing tactic, with the company not confirming any of the details mentioned on the site, but also not moving to shut the site down. Dell Laptop Coupons seems quite content at this stage to allow the leak to create a buzz.

The device according to the site suggests the device will have a 10.1 inch screen and will be 0.63 inches thick, weighing less than two pounds, which for a tablet device is a little on the heavy side. Beyond the slightly plump form factor, the device is alleged to be powered by an Intel Core i5 processor, featuring 4GB of RAM, and 64GB or 120GB SSD storage options.

Apparently the device will be called the Latitude ST, and to begin with, will come installed with Windows 7 Professional, though the website claims that the device will be compatible with Windows 8.

Other features include 2 USB ports, mini VGA, HDMI, microSD, audio jack, and a SIM card slot for 3G wireless connectivity. front and rear facing cameras (1.3 megapixel front camera, and 5 megapixel rear).

The leak details claim that the battery life of the device measures an impressive six to eight hours, and comes with a docking stations, that angles it as if it is a monitor on the desktop.

The leaked details claim an impressive six to eight hours of battery life from the Dell tablet. The docking station has three USB ports, gigabit Ethernet, HDMI, and audio out. The tablet can connect with either a USB or Bluetooth external keyboard (neither of which is included with the tablet or the docking station).
According to the website, we can expect an official launch of the device in October, with a hefty price tag of US$1,000 it is unlikely going to be positioned as a serious rival to the iPad, but may find strong success as a professional workhorse.

Dell Transformation Well Under Way

July 15, 2011 · Filed Under Dell Computers, Dell Computers News, Dell News, News · Comment

Computer manufacturing giant Dell, which trades in this country as Dell Computers Australia says it intends to hold on to key gains it has made in its margin as it embarks on ambitious expansion strategy into services and storage.

Michael Dell the company’s chief executive says the PC maker will continue to focus on mid market opportunities, aiming to service small and medium businesses or the SMB sector as well as continue strengthening its dominant position in the public and health care sectors, as it seeks to achieve a long term growth rate of 7 per cent.

Dell has belatedly embarked on a strategy of diversifying its earnings base, and after posting a robust set of quarterly results is enjoying renewed favour from investors. The company has raised its outlook for 2012 on the back of strong demand from the corporate sector and margin improvement.

“We…heard a much better tone and story than in recent years. Dell still has a way to go on their transformation, but we were impressed that they have accomplished what they set out to do over the last year,” said Wells Fargo analyst Jason Maynard.

“It is not entirely clear if the recent improvements in margins are temporary given better demand/spending versus their structural changes. For now, we believe this remains the primary debate on the stock,” he said in a client note.

At its investor conference held in Austin Texas, Dell did not provide any update to its 2012 guidance.

The company has attempted and aggressive expansion into handheld (tablets and smartphones), as well as data centre equipment.

The company sees storage equipment and services as a key driver of growth for the company. The company expects revenues from its storage businesses to grow between 15 to 20 per cent on average over the next four years, implying that the business will nearly double. Revenue from its services business is expected to grow by an average of 7 to 9 per cent over the same period.

Dell Coupons intends to expand its services business in Latin America and Europe, and expects its storage business to generate between $4 to $5 billion in revenue by 2015, up from $2.3 billion in 2011. Services are forecast to deliver anywhere between $10 to $11 billion in revenue by 2015, up from $7.7 billion last year.

The company has shown steady progress as it seeks to move into higher margin business and improving margins at its existing businesses, despite conceding market share to rivals.

Steve Schuckenbrock, head of Dell’s services unit says the company has increased the number of deals it has signed by 60 per cent so far this year, for a total value of $800 million. Dell is investing significantly in growing its team, whilst also relying on acquisitions as it seeks to transform the unit into a one stop shop for corporate IT needs. Last year Dell made eight acquisitions.

The company continues to face intense competition from rivals IBM and HP in the key data centre equipment segment and remains on the hunt for small to mid size acquisitions which can be used to expand its presence in storage or to expand its geographic reach in services and software company CFO Brian Gladden said.

The company would not pursue the same strategy as rival HP which acquired Palm and its operating system software.

“It’s counter to our strategy,” he said. “We tend to be much more open to multiple (operating systems).”

Some Wall Street analysts see Dell becoming more acquisitive within software, focusing on cloud applications and its services group. Dell had about $15.2 billion in cash and investments at the end of its first quarter.

“We are being selective and patient as we think about our acquisition strategy,” Gladden told the conference earlier.

Dell XPS 17 3D Sets The Bar As The 3D Laptop To Beat

July 11, 2011 · Filed Under Dell Computers, Dell Computers News, Dell News, Dell Reviews, News · Comment

Dell Computers Australia is taking advantage of things 3 dimensional with its XPS 17 3D. This 17.3 inch screen 1920 x 1080 pixel notebook computer is a beast, weighing in at a monster 8.2 pounds, with cutting edge specifications.

All of which has blazed the best frame rates in video game I have ever seen, with the general application benchmarks performing solidly, though short of record highs.

None of that matters though because it is the glorious LCD of the Dell XPS that shines. Not just as the brightest laptop screen I have ever seen, but it also happens to be brighter than every all in one desktop PC I have ever reviewed in my life too. In fact this baby is brighter than the 22 inch flat panel display I have sitting on my desk, and doesn’t just light up the night sky, it lights up every angle as well.

Whilst talking about performance is important, and the Dell Coupons XPS does well here, the real measure is how well it stacks up in the third dimension. The 3D is indeed quite effective not stuttering regardless of what 3D games or movies we tested on it. If you don’t mind sitting a little away from your PC and wearing 3D glasses, then you will enjoy the experience of 3D entertainment.

In short the XPS is the most capable 3 D laptop I have used till now. The latest version of this venerable series is solid, and if 3D is what you are looking for this baby sets the bar as being the machine to beat.

Be warned though it’s a pricey little thing, and at over $2000 you really need to ask yourself whether 3D is that important to you.
