Consumers Shifting Away From Traditional PC’s Into Apple Products
The results of a new survey conducted by market research firm ChangeWave suggests there has been a large transformation in the PC market as consumers shift in large numbers to products manufactured by Apple. .
The survey was conducted in August and polled 3,665 individuals including consumers who had purchased a computer within 90 days of taking the survey. The results suggest that Apple laptop sales were at an all time high, with 17 per cent of respondents saying they purchased an Apple within the last 90 days, compared with 12 per cent in June. Desktop Apple sales however fell to 7 per cent.
28 per cent of respondents said they planned to purchase an Apple laptop within the next 90 days, whilst 23 per cent said they planned to buy an Apple desktop.
Tobin Smith founder of ChangeWave said that the results were great news for Cupertino California based Apple.
“They serve as powerful evidence that the aforementioned halo effect is indeed translating into real world Mac Computer sales for Steve Jobs and company.” Mr. Smith said.
Rival Dell however did not seem to be in a great position, according to the results of the survey. The Round Rock Texas based company appears to have lost some market share with 30 per cent of those polled purchasing a Dell desktop, with 24 per cent purchasing a Dell laptop, statistics which are at an all time low
HP, the worlds largest PC manufacturer managed to maintain stability with its results. 26 per cent of those polled had purchased an HP desktop in the last 90 days, with 28 per cent of respondents saying they planned to buy and HP desktop in the next 90 days.

First Apple Computer Sells For US$200,000 At Auction
A personal computer that was one of the first batch ever made by Apple has sold for $210,000 at an auction held in London. The Apple I came in its original packaging and included a signed letter from Steve Jobs, the current CEO and original founder of the company.
Only 200 Apple I’s were ever made, and when the model was introduced in 1976, the computer had an original selling price of $666.66
The item was auctioned by Christies, and sold to an Italian businessman Marco Boglione who is a private collector.
The buyers brother, Francesco Boglione, who was present at the auction on Tuesday says his brother bought the item “because he loves computers”.
The other Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak who also attended the auction, adding signed letter to the item said “I’m very delighted for the gentleman who purchased it.”
Francesco Boglione says the computer is likely to be restored to working condition before joining a collection of Apple computers.
Despite the high selling price the processor of the Apple I is about 1000 times slower than an iPad. When it was first introduced the model was the first personal computer that included a fully assembled motherboard, allowing its owner to use it straight out of the box, buyers however had to provide their own keyboard and power source.

Consumers Likely To Hold Of On Tablet Purchases In Anticipation Of Second Generation iPad
Consumers are likely to hold off on purchasing tablet devices in expectation of an impending second generation iPad debut, which is widely expected by the first quarter of 2011.
A report in DigiTimes which cited unnamed overseas suppliers suggested that the expected launch of a second generation iPad is likely to seriously weaken demand for tablet offering from other PC manufacturers.
Others believe that tablet sales in 2011 are likely to disappoint the wildly optimistic 2011 sales projections.
“Since consumer demand for tablet PCs is still limited, while most upstream and downstream players are over-optimistic about the market, tablet PCs may see a sharp drop in demand as soon as the third quarter of 2011, after a big battle in the second,” the report said.
The “big battle” the report talks about, is in regard to the release of a second generation iPad, the launch of a tablet specific version of Google’s Android operating system and Intel’s planned launch of its Oak Trail platform.
According to the report, projected sales across all tablet devices is expected to reach between 45 and 55 million units. In fact some analysts have predicted Apple will achieve that sales figure on its own.
Current sales figures do not support that projection however, with Wall Street disappointed by the 4.19 million iPad units shifted by Apple in its most recent quarter.
Yair Reiner with Oppenheimer has predicted Apple will sell 23 million iPads next year, while Charlie Wolf of Needham & Company expects the company to ship 18 million iPads in 2011.
