Dell Streak Review – Available In Australia Now
For those of you who have been living in North Korea for the last year, you probably haven’t heard that computer manufacturing giant Dell, earlier in the year released a hybrid tablet/smartphone device which it dubs The Streak. 
I know many in Australia have been waiting to get their hands on the device which boasts a five inch screen and is a truly compelling mobile internet enabled device. The news is good because Dell Australia will be making The Streak available to Australian consumers starting Friday the 1st of October.
To give a bit of background for those that are unaware, the Dell Streak is a hybrid, that resides somewhere in between a smart phone and larger tablet devices. It has specifically been designed to provide its owners with a wide range of flexibility for how they use their mobile device.
The device is powered by the Android operating system, and the latest version of the software Android 2.2 can be downloaded over the air. Using the latest OS, features such as Adobe Flash 10.1 can be installed, as well as video chat applications.
The one thing that really stands out about The Streak is the screen size, which is an extremely generous and vivid 5-inch diagonal display. Now this may seem only slightly larger than conventional smartphones, but the benefits of having the extra screen space coupled with higher pixel quality become immediately apparent once you start using the device. Everyday activities such as watching video, browsing the web or playing games feel so much more spacious and luxurious.
The screen is made from gorilla glass, which we can honestly say is nothing short of indestructible when compared to other more fragile smartphones.
Aside from the larger screen size the Dell Streak is thin, measuring in at 10 millimetres, far thinner than a lot of other devices out there, and though it weighs in a bit heavier, its design is both solid and well balanced. The device comes with a whole range of accessories from a home AV dock, battery replacement and car dock capability.
The Dell Streak is a device that has specifically be designed for accessing content. For those of you who want a truly engaging mobile internet experience, then this is the device for you.
Hardware-wise, the Dell Streak features the following:

Michael Dell Reveals Dell Seven Inch Tablet Device
Michael Dell, chief executive of his eponymous company Dell Computers, used last week’s Oracle user conference to reveal the company’s new seven inch tablet device. Mr. Dell also used the opportunity to suggest that the company was on track to generate $60 billion in revenue for the year.
Mr. Dell who was speaking at the Oracle OpenWorld conference which was held in San Francisco last Wednesday showed off the new device which from glances seems to be powered by the Android operating system. Mr. Dell refused to divulge any further details about the device.
Last month Dell released its five inch tablet style device which is dubbed the Streak. In America the device is only available through its online store, but will be rolled out through major retailers shortly. Dell Australia has yet to launch the device in this country.
Mr. Dell also used the opportunity to make the point that the company had grown its revenue by 20 per cent over the previous two quarters and said “it looks like we’ll probably do that again this quarter as well.”
Dell executives have gone on record previously as saying that the Round Rock Texas based company plans on launching tablets with larger screens.
The Streak, which is powered by the Android operating system and can also be used as a smartphone, costs US$549.99, or $299.99 with a two-year contract from AT&T.
