Apple Australia Time Capsules

August 27, 2009 · Filed Under Apple Mac Computers, News · Comment

time capsuleApple Australia has created two monster external hard drives which work seamlessly with OS X Leopard, and if you can fill them up, then, well, you’re a better man than me! The wireless Apple Time Capsule is a Wi-Fi base station with dual band support, and is available in 1TB and 2TB models. 2TB’s?!

As an avid music producer myself (some good, some dreadful!) I save tons of big audio files and I never get anywhere near to filling up my 500GB hard drive, so one of these beauties will literally save a lifetime’s worth of music, films and pictures in one fell swoop.

Alienware Aurora Desktop Review

August 27, 2009 · Filed Under Alienware Computers, Reviews · Comment

Monsters. There, I’ve said it. Alienware unleash monsters onto the unsuspecting humanoids of this weak and feeble planet that we call Earth (a bit over dramatic I know!).

Now, I’ve had the pleasure and pain of reviewing a few desktops in my time (as that’s my job), but this piece of machinery is like encountering a different species of computer. Before I bog you down with all the technical specifications, watch this short film ‘Breed’, created by Alienware, which just goes to show their imaginary idealism of how an Alienware computer is created.

Wow. What kind of company goes our of their way to create such a magnificent advert? A company run by gamers, for gamers. In one word – ALIENWARE.

These bad boys will blow the socks off any near competitor for sheer power and upgradability. Alienware standard specifications are pretty mind blowing, but the add on’s take the company to a completely different stratosphere for gaming.

The Alien Aurora is an evil looking extra terrestrial that is available in such other worldly colour schemes as Cyborg Green, Saucer Silver and Space Black. You can even personalise the interior lighting system with
with a choice of Fusion Red, Lunar White, Nebula Aqua…

I presume you get the picture!

When unleashing the inner beast, there are a plethora of specifications to choose from, allowing the user to really tailor their own requirements to a tee. These include up to -

These computers were designed with serious gamers in mind, and the tech specs show you really cannot underestimate the power these machines possess – Alienware was created by gamers, for gamers.

With prices starting at $2,705 for a basic model, the Aurora’s price tag may seem a little steep to the untrained eye. But to those in the know, they will see this as money well spent on an essential lifestyle accompliment.

Apple Australia Snow Leopard Launch – Friday 28th August 2009

August 25, 2009 · Filed Under Apple Mac Computers, Reviews · 1 Comment

snow leopardApple Australia will be launching their highly anticipated new operating system this Friday. The ‘Snow Leopard’ will feature a whole host of improvements that will have your Apple system purring with enjoyment. Mac response times have been vastly upgraded, with installations now running at twice the speed and shut down up to 80% faster.

Snow Leopard also features a quicker version of the Finder programme, plus improvements have been made to allow Exposé to be intergrated in the Dock to simplify switching between windows. QuickTime X and the new QuickTime Player are the latest generation of audio and visual applications which will allow Mac users an easy way to watch films as well as record, trim, and share media. Plus Safari 4 will be offering ultra fast web browsing at twice the speed with less crashes.

Snow Leopard will be available from this Friday and will retail at only $39 for the upgrade package for previous Leopard users. The new operating system will only work on Apple computers with Intel processors, and to upgrade from the Tiger operating system to the Snow Leopard will require the purchase of the Mac Box Set for $229, which also features the latest versions of iLife and iWork.

As I was writing this, I started to get a little hot under the collar at the thought of getting my hands on the Snow Leopard, until I realised I’m still working off a G5 Dual Mac from about 4 years ago…

time for a new computer me thinks!
